My experience trying out Skaehub developer program.

This all started with me finding about the Skaehub developer program on instagram. I was immediately fascinated by the idea and signed up for it. This was on the 12th of May 2021. Three days later to my surprise and joy, I received an email stating that I had made it to the second stage of the selection process.

This second stage was a two and a half week self study period. I was really excited thinking of the prospects of going into the self study period. I was provided for a self study curriculum by Skaehub. After the 2 week study period was over a technical assessment link would be sent via email.

In the self study curriculum there was alot of ground that I needed to cover if I was to go into the assessment ready. The topic I needed to cover were basically:

1. Introduction to computer science - The main thing in this topic was understanding what computer science is and what a computer scientist does. There was also an interesting bit on the concepts in Computer science(Ai, Computer security e.t.c.).
2. Introduction to programming with python - I first started by getting to know what programming is, basics in programming and the environs within which programs are written.
3. Object Oriented Programming(OOP)- This is a programming concept that helps programmers make reusable code. This in the long run avoids repeating in code.
4. Data structures - In basic terms, is a better storage and organization solution in programming.
5. Algorithms - The steps and directions that guide a programmer in writing code.
6. Recursion - Function calling itself till a condition is met or does’nt terminate.
7. Sorting and searching - The topic is on the sorting algorithm.
8. Software Engineering - It is mainly on the development methodologies and understanding what it is software engineers actually do.
9. Version control - Getting to know what version control is and how to do version control with github.
10. Remote work - With the current pandemic, this term has become more wide spread in the world and alot of companies are opting into this type of system.

I didn’t know much about how Remote work actually was carried out but through the program I can now say that I know what it entails.

Through this period of time i have been partaking in the selection process I have gained alot in understanding of computer science and also things going on in the world like remote work and the solutions being carried out by companies to aid their employees have smooth transition. I hope that I can get to continue in this journey.
